Last week, we reported on the new movie ‘Lovely Molly’ from Eduardo Sanchez and Robert Eick, the pioneers of the found footage genre. Most notably known as the director and the producer of ‘The Blair Witch Project’, they’ve returned to the genre that they helped create with this new offering that promises to “redefine horror once again,”which has screened at many festivals, most recently at South By Southwest. However, considering that the only horror movie that I’ve heard people raving about from SXSW was Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s ‘The Cabin In The Woods’, I’m not sure how much redefining went on from the Blair Witch camp, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Especially after I saw this clip that has surfaced online.

Today, a video titled ‘Lovely Molly: Path to Madness Part 1’ surfaced. At first, I thought that maybe it was an extended trailer, but it’s apparently the first episode of a series that explores the main character, Molly Reynolds, and her descent into the darkness. I’ve never seen a film give back story and exposition in this manner before. Check out the video below.

‘Lovely Molly – Path To Madness’ Part 1 Clip:

Hopefully this doesn’t give away too much of the plot. If it did, it would just give us a reason to avoid the movie altogether. But if these guys are looking to redefine the horror genre again, they might have something new and unexpected up their sleeves with this series. We’ll just have to wait and see if the payoff is worth it in the end.

‘Lovely Molly’ stars Gretchen Lodge, Alexandra Holden, Johnny Lewis, Daniel Ross, Katie Foster and Ken Arnold and opens in the US on May 18th.
