Who said that a low self-esteemed high school student turned sorcerer couldn’t be an accomplished writer in another dimension? Apparently they haven’t heard of Danny Strong who has just been tapped to write the screenplay for the last two ‘The Hunger Games’ movie of the tetralogy.
Strong is known by ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ fans as the actor who played Jonathan Levinson, the loveable nerd and short time baddie, but since then, he has gone behind the camera and has made a name for himself in the screenwriting world.
As the last book of ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy is more politically themed than the other two, Strong seems like the best candidate to write the screenplays. Strong is coming off his two-time Emmy win for his work on HBO’s ‘Game Change’, which he also co-executive produced, as well as penned the script for Lee Daniel’s White House tale ‘The Butler’ which is set to be in theaters next year. Strong has also been signed to rewrite the film adaptation to Dan Brown’s novel ‘The Lost Symbol’.
Producers have decided to break ‘Mockingjay’ into two parts and while no official deal has been signed, sources tell Variety that Strong is the studio’s choice as their writer whereas Lionsgate has officially declined to comment at this time.
Currently, Strong is working on a legal drama based on a real-life father and daughter team for CBS.
