While the sequels may have been completely boring, the original ‘Paranormal Activity’ is one of the most intense horror movies in recent years. Now the creator of ‘Paranormal Activity’, Oren Peli, is about to unleash his latest creation to movie goers everywhere when ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ releases on May 25, 2012.

The Warner Brothers produced ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ is written by Peli and the Van Dyke brother duo of Carey and Shane (‘The Sacred’) and directed by Brad Parker. This is Parker’s first outing as director, with his past experience being in visual FX on films like ‘Fight Club’ and ‘Let Me In’. ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ will star Jonathan Sadowski (‘$#*! My Dad Says’), Jesse McCartney (‘Young Justice’), Nathan Phillips (‘Wolf Creek’), Devin Kelley (‘Covert Affairs’), and Olivia Dudley (‘Chillerama’).

‘Chernobyl Diaries’ is the story of a group of young tourists who go on a new travel thrill called “extreme touring”. Their guide takes the group into the city of Pripyat, where the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor lived before being forced to leave after the 1986 disaster. As the gang explore the town, they quickly discover that they are left stranded and that the town isn’t as deserted as they thought.

‘Chernobyl Diaries’ Movie Trailer:

Based on the trailer, it seems as if ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ is more traditional horror than ‘Paranormal Activity’ with the group of kids being picked off one by one by the killer(s). Either way, it still looks like a fun romp. I did note that the trailer really doesn’t reveal any of the citizens of Pripyat so I’m hoping the FX team have designed something truly shocking and that’ll be the pay off for this one.
