It looks like the Fede Alvarez’s remake of Sam Raimi’s ‘The Evil Dead’ has hit a road bump as Variety reportor Jeff Sneider has tweeted that Lily Collins is no longer playing the lead in the horror film:

Apparently, Collins (who has just finished playing Snow White in ‘Mirror, Mirror’) was also offered the lead in the big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s ‘The Mortal Instrument’ which is said to currently be in production. With ‘The Evil Dead’ to start filming in New Zealand in March, it looks like the two schedules would conflict causing Collins to drop out of the project.

It was only weeks ago that it was announced that Collins would play the female lead of Mia who was likened to be the female version of Ash Williams, the role that Bruce Campbell made famous in the original movie. This version would focus on five friends who are stuck in a remote cabin where they stumble upon a Book of the Dead which unleashes a demonic force that proceeds to possess each of them until there is only one left to fight for survival. Mia (who Collins was originally set to play) is a detoxed drug addict who heads to the cabin while coming to terms with her new found sobriety.  Because of this, the others don’t believe her when she starts making claims about the weird happenings that begin to occur to her.

So now the producers are back to square one looking for a female lead to replace Collins. Who would you want to see instead? Or are you like many of the ‘Evil Dead’ fans and want Bruce Campbell back to reprise his role as Ash?
