Being no stranger to futuristic films, Ethan Hawke has starred in ‘Gattaca’, appeared in ‘Daybreakers’ and will soon be seen in the remake of ‘Total Recall.’ Now he’s back starring in a new sci-fi futuristic thriller called ‘Vigilandia.’

‘Vigilandia’ will be produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Production who also produced the ‘Paranormal Activity’ series and ‘Insidious.’ Also on board to help with production is Why Not Productions and Michael Bay’s production company Platinum Dudes (who have already produced the remakes of ‘The Amityville Horror’ and ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ (aka ‘Leatherface’). The screenplay was written by James DeMonaco (‘The Negotiater’, ‘Skinwalkers’, ‘Jack’) who will also be directing the movie.

Hawke has worked with Blum and Demonaco in the past. Not only did he star in ‘Assault in Precinct 13’ which was written by DeMonaco, Hawke also starred in DeMonaco’s directorial debut film ‘Little New York.’ And he will be seen this September in the found footage supernatural thriller ‘Sinister’ which was produced by Blum’s company.

Other than the fact that ‘Vigilandia’ will be a low budget horror film and that production will begin on February 13, not much else is known as everyone involved with the project is keeping it hush-hush.

The trend of low budget horror films doesn’t seem like it’s going away anytime soon. With the recent success of ‘The Devil Inside’ and ‘Paranormal Activity 4’ among others in the works, the studios have found a niche that will make them money with very little output on their part. As usual, they will be oversaturating the audiences with more of these films whether we like it or not. Hawke has not appeared in many theatrical lead roles lately so I’m hoping that ‘Vigilandia’ will provide him a venue that will really show off his talent.

Since production starts next month, I’m sure that more information of the movie will be revealed. Once that happens, we’ll let you know!
