The first trailer and teaser poster for director Bryan Singer’s upcoming 3D fantasy film ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ hit the net earlier tonight. And while the trailer reveals that Singer has obviously wrapped a bit of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ into the traditional ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ story, it still looks like a fun fantasy romp (even if the giants are a bit smallish for my tastes).

The synopsis for the film:

“‘Jack the Giant Killer’ tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.”

‘Jack The Giant Killer’ Movie Trailer

It’s also worth noting that ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ is Singer’s first foray into 3D filmmaking as is obvious from some of the shots in the trailer. I’m one of those old curmudgeons that is still not sold on the concept of 3D films as anything more than a cheap gimmick but this looks like the kind of fluff film that you can put your brain on the backburner for and just enjoy the tale of the young hero doing battle against horrible monsters to save the princess.

What are your thoughts on the trailer or poster for ‘Jack the Giant Killer’? Do you think Singer has a hit on his hand or is this just a forgettable movie that will wait for a Netflix rental down the road?

‘Jack the Giant Killer’ is directed by Bryan Singer, stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Ewan McGregor. It hits theaters in 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 15, 2012.
