According to Deadline, Hugh Jackman is rumored to be the first choice for the lead in director Shawn Levy’s (‘Real Steel’, ‘Night At The Museum’) ‘Fantastic Voyage’ Reboot. James Cameron is set to produce the 3D epic based on the 1966 classic science fiction film.

“In this sci-fi drama, a group of medical experts miniaturize themselves and a specialized vehicle so they may enter the body of a renowned scientist to remove a life-threatening blood clot in the man’s brain. But one member of the rescue team is hiding a more sinister agenda.”

While science fiction author Isaac Asimov did write the novelization, it was based on the films screenplay and not an original idea from Asimov. There have also been two additional novels; ‘Fantastic Voyage II: Destination Brain’ from Asimov and ‘Fantastic Voyage: Microcosm’ by author Kevin J. Anderson and published in 2001.

Levy and Jackman have already worked together on the upcoming sci-fi film ‘Real Steel’ that’s due in October 2011. A sequel script for ‘Steel’ has already been ordered by DreamWorks. ‘Fantastic Voyage’s ambitious 3D script by Shane Salerno (‘Armadeddon’, ‘Alien vs Predator – Requiem’)  and ‘Avatar’ executive producer Laeta Kalogridis (‘Night Watch’, ‘Birds of Prey’, ‘Shutter Island’ and ‘Battle Angel’) has added a dramatic love story that was not part of the 1966 movie. Levy and Jackman are also attached to another film project based at Fox. The untitled project is being written by ‘Lost’s Carlton Cuse.
