According to Deadline, Will Smith and his son Jaden have signed on to star in an untitled (previously known as ‘One Thousand A.E.) Sony Pictures film with director M. Night Shyamalan.

“The story takes place far in the future where a young boy has to navigate an abandoned planet on a space ship that has crashed. On board is his estranged father.”

Will Smith’s presence is usually welcomed by science fiction fans and he has starred in a number of successful science fiction franchises such as ‘Men In Black’ and ‘Independence Day’. He’s also previously starred with his son Jaden in ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’.

Director Shyamalan started strong with 1999’s ‘The Sixth Sense’. However since then, his very serious films have become laughingly bad even with a fantastic cast such as ‘The Village’, ‘Lady in the Water’, ‘The Happening’ and most recently ‘The Last Airbender’. And with Smith’s involvement, this will most likely be the directors largest budget and the first truly epic science fiction film he has directed. Someone is placing a large bet with Shyamalan directing this film.
