‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ (#9) has now joined the elite club of 10 films that have grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Interestingly, 9 out of 10 are science fiction or fantasy films. It joins with 2 other films this year that have crossed that threshold – ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ (#6) and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ (#7). It took 37 days for ‘Transformers’ to cross that while ‘Tides’ took 46 days and ‘Hallows’ took just 19 days to hit the magic number. ‘Transformers’ does have a chance to move up the list. The film probably has enough steam left to possibly make it to number 7.
