The Deadite menace is set to return as Sam Raimi has confirmed that a new ‘Evil Dead’ movie is in the works! While promoting the reboot of ‘The Grudge’ at New York Comic Con 2019, which Raimi is producing, he teased the future of the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise. The director specifically shared the fantastic news that:
“There’s more Evil Dead coming.”
He went on to tease that a new director would be tackling the movie.

The franchise creator had recently shared that he “would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that. But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about.”
Now, it appears that the third possibility is moving forward! Sadly this likely means we won’t see Campbell being involved in front of the camera at all though he could be attached as a producer. Also, with a new director connected, it seems that we won’t be getting a continuation of the story told by Álvarez in 2013. As we can all hope that this won’t be a full-on reboot, it would be interesting to see how a new tale is told in the universe that can reference the other films without being entirely guided by them. As the 2013 release showed, this is a franchise that can work leaning heavily into the horror instead of the slapstick that Campbell was known for. However, either a focus on horror or humor would likely work with the right story.
Are you thrilled that the Necronomicon and Deadite menace will once again return to try and destroy the Earth in a new ‘Evil Dead’ movie? Do you hope it will be somehow in canon with the existing films, or would you prefer a full reboot? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
