In Season 1 of The CW’s ‘Black Lightning’, elder daughter Anissa (Nafessa Williams) happily adopted the heroic identity of the earth-pounding hero Thunder, striking out to fight crime like her father Jefferson/Black Lightning (Cress Williams). One the opposite end of the spectrum, younger daughter Jennifer (China Anne McClain) just wanted to be a regular teenager, despite her emerging electrical abilities that fried her cell phone among other issues. What has happened with her boyfriend Khalil (Jordan Calloway) hasn’t helped. However, it is hinted that Jennifer may one day become more powerful than either Anissa or Jefferson.
But despite her desires for normalcy, it looks as though Jennifer will enter the family business and adopt the identity of Lightning.
Below, The CW has unleashed a new image of McClain suited up as Lightning:
Last year, McClain discussed her character’s journey, saying:
“Jennifer is young, she’s a teenager, and for her getting her powers is very different than Anissa getting her powers for the first time. I’ve said that she’s older, she’s confident, she knows who she is at this point in her life and she’s comfortable with that, but Jennifer is still trying to figure that out. To have this happen to her is a huge deal and she feels like an alien on earth. It’s difficult for her to deal with, it’s going to be very interesting to see.”
‘Black Lightning’ also stars Christine Adams, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III, Damon Gupton, and James Remar.
‘Black Lightning”s final episode of 2018 aired on Tuesday night. It moves to Monday nights when it returns on January 21, 2019 at 9pm EST, after ‘The Flash’. It replaces ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ which will return later in the spring.
