If you didn’t get enough of Captain Saru on ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ IDW Publishing feels your pain and releasing a one-shot comic to tell us more about the character. Revealed at the Destination Star Trek convention in Birmingham, UK, the new comic will be penned by Mike Johnson and Kirsten Beyer. It will feature artwork by Angel Hernandez with a cover that you can see here which was illustrated by Paul Shipper.
For those unfamiliar with the authors, Beyer is part of the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ writers’ room and previously teamed up with Johnson on the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ comics “The Light of Kahless,” “Succession,” and the Annual. Hernandez is no stranger to the franchise either having worked on the Discovery Annual with these two as well as the other “Star Trek” outings such as the “Star Trek/Green Lantern – The Spectrum War” crossover and “Star Trek: The Next Generation – Terra Incognita.”
On the book, Johnson has shared that:
“I can tell you that the plan right now is to tell the story that involves the whole Discovery crew as we know and love them, and it will be more of a contemporary story in terms of the present time of Discovery and not so much a flashback like our other ones have been. So that’s sort of the teaser for the next one.”
The book is planned to be released in February 2019, and we won’t know more until IDW Publishing publishes their February previews which are expected to be revealed in November.

If the image is any indication, it looks like the entire crew will be involved in this story. However, it is unclear as to when exactly we’ll see it taking place in the timeline.
