Over the years, many comic book and cartoon franchises have come and gone. Some may stand the test of time, while others fade into obscurity, but few have had a story with quite as many ups and downs as the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. They went from being an independent comic to being one of the most popular franchises of the 90s, to being all but forgotten by the end of the decade, only to see itself be reinvented several times before finding its footing again and becoming one of the worlds most popular children’s franchises again! There are plenty of reasons to celebrate the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, which is probably why the team at NECA is bringing fans a ton of great new ‘TMNT’ products this year!
This year at San Diego Comic Con 2017, NECA released what is easily one of the most talked about SDCC exclusive collectibles of the year with their massive classic styled ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ 7” scale box set that included all four of the Turtles, plus Shredder, Krang, and a couple of Foot Soldiers! Fans couldn’t get enough of this set, so NECA made sure to announce a number of cool new ‘TMNT’ items to keep fans satiated!
For starters, NECA revealed a first look at what looks like a new box set of video-game styled ‘TMNT’ figures dubbed ‘The Dimension X Collection’. The wave includes new figures of Slash and some Stone Warriors! These are done in a video-game style much like most of the previous NECA ‘TMNT’ figures in order to avoid licensing issues for the figures in this scale. You can check out a full image gallery for this set over at ToyArk!
If you’re looking for something a little bit bigger, NECA is also looking to continue their massive 1:4th scale line of figures based on the original 1990 ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movie with the newly announced ‘Disguise’ Raphael! This new version of their 1:4th scale Raphael figure comes packaged with a trench coat, a fedora, a backpack, and even a sweet Jose Canseco bat! Check out the full release from NECA for the new 1:4th scale ‘Disguise’ Raphael below!
“A Jose Canseco bat? Tell me… you didn’t pay money for this.”
NECA’s newest 1/4 scale action figure from the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is Raphael in the disguise he uses to pass through the city unnoticed. He wears a fabric trench coat and sculpted hat and backpack, all of which are removable.
Raphael stands 16.5” tall and features 30 points of articulation, including double elbow joints, to fully showcase his mastery of the martial arts. The figure is highly detailed and entirely accurate to the movie, and comes with baseball bat, pizza slice and sai accessories, as well as interchangeable hands.
In addition to ‘Disguise Raphael’, NECA also took the opportunity to announce that fans can look forward to 1:4th scale figures of The Shredder and Foot Clan members in the near future! Unfortunately, while these figures were announced at SDCC, there were no samples on hand to be seen.
And of course, for the most hardcore fans of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ franchise, NECA has pulled out all of the stops to bring some iconic items from the series long running history into the real world with some fantastic looking new prop replicas! For starters (quite literally) we have a prop replica of the original canister of Ooze that created the Turtles in the classic 1990 film! Check out the release from NECA below!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 Movie) – Prop Replica – Mutagen Canister – November 2017
After wading in a puddle of radioactive waste, four radical reptiles were transformed into New York City’s greatest crime-fighting quartet! Now you can own a full-size replica of the Mutagen Canister that started it all, created from careful study and examination of the prop used in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
Press a button and green light glows through the crack in the side; it even comes with “ooze”! Canister measures approximately 13” long and uses button cell batteries, included.
There was also a replica of a Casey Jones Mask that you can see here! Fans of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ are sure in for some tubular new items from NECA in the coming year, and if we know NECA like we think we do, we certainly haven’t seen the last of the new ‘TMNT’ products for the year!
