Say what you will about the current state of ‘The Flash’ on the CW (I know some people think it has lost its way), but there is no denying that the show has paved the way for the rest of the Arrowverse shows to be established, and done a lot of work keeping that universe going. True, ‘Arrow’ may have been the show to launch it all, but it was not until ‘The Flash’ that we got to see superpowers and metahumans, staples of DC comics, not to mention the spirit of fun and light-hearted adventure that separated ‘The Flash’ from ‘Arrow’ (a spirit that many feel has been lacking in this season in particular). Sadly, one of the driving forces behind ‘The Flash,’ a man who has been there since the beginning, working alongside his brother as an executive-producer on the show, will not be returning for Season 4. The news first broke about Aaron Helberg not coming back for next season when the network released a very spoiler heavy synopsis for Season 4 (I’m not posting it, because I don’t want to read it until after I see the Season 3 finale), which did not list the man as an executive producer on the new season. The news was confirmed on Cinemablend by the CW itself, so now we now for certain, though the reasons for his departure remain unclear.

What we do know is that Aaron Helberg is credited with being an executive producer for every episode of the series so far, and even has the writing credit for the season finale this year, ‘Finish Line,’ so perhaps this was just a creative decision for him, feeling he has given everything he can to the series and it is time for him to move on. Sadly, he will be leaving his brother Todd Helbing behind, as the two siblings have worked together on many projects over the years and came into ‘The Flash’ together, but for fans of the series, having Todd remain means a certain level of creative continuity at least, so we will (hopefully) not be seeing too many drastic changes going into next season.
