After having a few months to recover from ‘Captain America: Civil War’, True Believers are ready to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But before getting to explore new areas of the MCU in ‘Doctor Strange’ and ‘Luke Cage’ later this fall, we’ll get to catch up with Agent Phil Coulson and his team as ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ kicks off its fourth season this week. Now ahead of the season premiere tomorrow night, we have a number of sneak peeks to hold people over until the show’s debut at their new 10:00pm time slot.
First, fans have been clamoring to see Ghost Rider in all his flaming glory since the announcement was made back at San Diego Comic Con that the Gabriel Luna would be joining the show as the Robbie Reyes version of the character. You can get your first glimpse at Luna as the Spirit of Vengeance courtesy of Yahoo! TV:
In addition to that picture, you can find some brand new character photos in the gallery below thanks to Marvel.com. Not only is there another shot of Luna as Reyes (minus the skull for a head), but you can also catch a glimpse at old favorites like Agents May, Fitz, and Simmons along with new additions like Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena Rodriguez/Yo-Yo and John Hannah as Holden Radcliffe.
If you were paying attention, you may have noticed that Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson is sporting her AWOL look in her solo picture, but can be seen wearing her S.H.I.E.L.D.-issued attire and gauntlets in the full cast shot. I guess in order to face a mystical menace like Ghost Rider, the former Agent Johnson needs something a little extra. And if this TV spot is any indication, she’s definitely ready:
Finally, we have the first clip from the season four premiere titled ‘The Ghost’. It gives us a whole lot to be excited/worried about. On the plus side, we see that Coulson is settling back into his role as a field agent very well and Daisy Johnson is referred to as Quake for the first time on the series. The bad news is that the former agent may be connected to some incidents and the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has given the order to shoot to kill if she’s spotted. Check out what Coulson, Mack, and May have in mind to get to the bottom of this in the clip, followed by the synopsis of the new episode:
In light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimatized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows. Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack, and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of enhanced people, aka Inhumans. Agent May is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz and Simmons have taken a big step forward in their relationship.
Are you excited for the return of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? How do you think Ghost Rider will change the face of the MCU as we know it? And what do you think is in store for Quake? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Henry Simmons returns to ABC on September 20, 2016 at 10:00pm.
