The son of Clint Eastwood might soon be preparing to pilot a Jaeger as Scott Eastwood (‘Gran Torino’,’Fury’) is in early talks to join ‘Pacfic Rim: Maelstrom‘. There is no guarantee that he would be a Jaeger pilot but as he is up for a “key role” in the film one would expect that is what he would be up to. If he does join the cast he’ll be front and center on the big screen with John Boyega (‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’,’Attack the Block’) who is already set to star in the film.
Steven DeKnight has some big shoes to fill in the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s visual feast of robots fighting giant monsters but with the plot being the weak point of the first for many, this might be easier than you would think. Eastwood has a rising star in Hollywood with ‘Snowden’, ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘Fast 8’, and ‘Live by Night’ all coming up for him so another summer tentpole seems a fitting place for his acting chops to shine.
With genre work and war films in his past; a world full of over the top battles should be easy for him to jump right into. We don’t know much about the plot of this film at this time but as we inch closer to the 2018 release date and with more casting announcements on the horizon I’m sure we’ll find out quite a bit more in the near future.
