hannibal-eating

While NBC viciously assaulted fans of ‘Hannibal‘ by pulling the show off the air, it seems that Mads Mikkelsen (‘Doctor Strange’,’Casino Royale’) who played the show’s namesake hasn’t given up on it yet. From low ratings to piracy being blamed for the demise of one of the most visually appealing horror series to grace the small screen, it seems that the entire cast and crew from Bryan Fuller to Hugh Dancy would all be willing to come back if circumstances made it happen.

Now, Hannibal himself has thrown his willingness to return into the mix.

During a recent interview he was asked if there was a chance for the series to return:

“It all depends on Bryan. He is the key, the base, the heart. We will wait and see what happens next in his career. But we all know that we can easily pick this up in two or three years, there are breaks in the stories. We could pick it up, say, four years later. If Bryan is up for it, we will all go for it.”

Thankfully with the emergence of Netflix and Amazon Studios, the ability to bring a show back from cancellation isn’t just feasible but also a very solid reality. At this time, NBC owns so much of the rights to the series that it just isn’t feasible for another network to pick them up but after a couple years go by, this scenario could quite easily change. Mixing that with the fact that the novels by Thomas Harris did take place years apart, that makes the timeline pretty open for our characters to return down the road.

Would Fuller want to come back? According to Mikkelsen:

“He loved it. It was his baby. Let’s wait and see.”

With how much the famed showrunner was fighting to have a fourth season on other outlets even while ramping up for production on ‘American Gods,’ I have no doubt that if the opportunity arises and the cast were available that we’ll see this story revisited. I mean, there still has to be a way to give fans an arc that tells us ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ storyline as well as other ideas that weren’t explored.

Are you happy to hear that Mikkelsen would happily return to portray Hannibal Lecter? Does this series still have life in it or have you lost your appetite for this take on the characters? Share your thoughts below!
