When you think about it, it’s kind of amazing that the Empire had both the finances and the technological advances to construct a Death Star. A few people looked into the possibility of creating a Death Star, and to do so would require fathomless resources. It would also result in a galactic amount of debt. There’s also the ethical considerations, but let’s put that on the back burner for now.
However, in terms of constructing the Death Star, the Empire did miss an opportunity to ensure its stability. They could’ve built it around an asteroid.
