Fans of ‘Gambit‘ have been eagerly wondering what we may get in the upcoming feature film and producer Simon Kinberg is sharing some details on how it will be different from what we’ve seen so far. ‘Deadpool’ with it’s R-Rating and style, has already shown that 20th Century Fox is trying to mix up the feel of their films and this spinoff seems to be emphasizing that point.
So what can we expect on Channing Tatum’s take on the character when the film drops? Well, it isn’t just his character but the entire tone of the film which will be different. According to Kinberg:
“I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies,” says Kinberg. “The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.”
Gambit has always been a master thief and a lover of women so describing his solo adventure as “a heist movie and a sexy thriller” actually should have long term fans of the character excited. I do hope that like ‘Deadpool‘ we’ll be seeing some ties to the larger mutant universe. While I don’t feel that it needs the R rating that ‘Deadpool’ did to be successful, I hope that their embracing of it won’t be for just a single film as many of the mutant stories out there could be pretty violent.
I hope that they can also make it as enjoyable as Marvel’s offering of a heist film in ‘Ant-Man‘ which was surprisingly able to make me enjoy a character who I usually despise. If anything, Fox has a harder job in front of them as they have to take a well liked character in the books and enhance that feeling for his big screen adaptation.
