Every since I heard that Gwendoline Christie (‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’) had joined the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ I’ve been excited to find out what her role was going to have. Now news is coming out of who she’ll be playing! With her amazing work as Brienne of Tarth in ‘Game of Thrones‘ I’ve been hoping we’d see her as a strong female lead that would have some amazing fight scenes and it sounds like we might be in for just that.

This is going into spoiler territory, so if you don’t want to know anything about ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ you might want to turn back now.

According to Bad Ass Digest Christie is going to be playing John Boyega’s commanding officer in the film and she is out for blood. The reason being? He apparently deserted his post and she’s looking to bring him back. They believe she is an imperial officer but aren’t fully committing to it but do seem to indicate that they have confirmation that he is part was her crew. It could mean they are outlaws or something else as well.

If you look at the face of it you would think that even with the failed Empire, that Imperial Officers would be too busy to be spending time tracking down a single member of their crew. That is until you also factor in that she has apparently been training with a lightsaber. That changes things completely as if rumors of Boyenga being a Jedi prove true, could Christie’s character be one as well? More importantly could she be a Sith who is trying to bring back or stop not a crewman but an apprentice? I’m not sure but I can’t wait to find out!

While not yet confirmed by Christie or Disney,  the site does cite sources and it does seem to be a believable fit for the actress.

What do you think of Christie being an Imperial Officer or a Sith? Can you see her wielding a lightsaber as well as she wields a long sword? Share your thoughts below!

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ blasts off into theaters on December 18, 2015.
