The official trailer for Sam Raimi’s ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ will be released on Wednesday but until then, Disney has released 6 new images to tide us over while we wait.
‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ is a prequel to the classic MGM film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ that is so well known today. It centers on Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small time con man who finds himself transported via a hot air balloon to the Land of Oz. He is mistaken as Oz the great and powerful who has been destined to be the next king of Emerald City…that is, if he can defeat the Wicked Witch. The only problem is, he isn’t a great wizard nor is he that powerful but he must maintain this façade if he expects to live through this adventure.
The photos that were released include one of the “flying” monkeys, Glinda (Michelle Willaims) doing something magical and a close up of a discussion between Theodora (Mila Kunis) and Evanora (Rachel Weisz). There’s also an image that shows Diggs (Franco) as he makes his way through “Chinatown,” a city where everything is made out of china and that the Wicked Witch has broken to pieces. Diggs puts a few pieces together and makes ‘China Girl’ (voiced by Joey King) who decides to join Diggs on his journey.
One think is for certain, by looking at the photos below it can be seen that the film will be visually majestic in scope when it comes to the Land of Oz.
