Bandersnatch Will Poulter

‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ star Will Poulter is the latest actor to ditch Twitter, in the best interest of his “mental health.”  Poulter did state that he would still post on behalf of campaigns and charities that he supported.  Other celebrities that have quit or taken breaks from Twitter in the last year or so include Cardi B, Millie Bobby Brown, Pete Davidson, Ariana Grande, Armie Hammer, Ruby Rose, Ed Sheeran, and Kelly Marie Tran.  While she didn’t quit, Margot Robbie also disclosed that she had received death threats via social media over her casting as Harley Quinn in the DC Comics movies.  And after James Gunn was fired by Disney over old tweets, other directors and Hollywood types have gone through and purged old tweets that may incriminate them.

Poulter posted one last tweet explaining his decision to leave, although he didn’t get into specifics.

“In light of my recent experiences, I am choosing to take a step back, of sorts, from Twitter.  It’s been a delight to learn that so many of you enjoyed what many people worked very hard to produce. There are positives to enjoy and inevitable negatives that are best avoided. It’s a balance I have struggled with for a while now and in the interest of my mental health I feel the time has come to change my relationship with social media.

“I don’t want to appear unappreciative of all the amazing support I have received online for which I am genuinely so grateful…I am privileged to have this platform. I hope that this shift to reduce my personal expression and increase the focus on issues that matter will result in a better outcome for everyone. This is not the end. Consider it an alternative path. With love, Will.”

‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ premiered on December 28 and became an immediate sensation thanks to its interacting “choose your own adventure” features.  Poulter’s character, Colin Ritman, was certainly an unsavory type, which may have led to some negative reaction from viewers.

We’ll have to wait and see how long Poulter stays away.  Until then, best of luck!
