Director Todd Phillips is clearly clowning around while sharing new shots from ‘Joker‘ as we’re continuing to see Joaquin Phoenix in various clown outfits. Phillips has a new shot for the actor to share with us and with each new one, I’m waiting to see variations of other classic clowns pop up such as Pennywise or Ronald McDonald.
The more we see of Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, the more it feels like the future Clown Prince of Crime is going to be working as a circus clown or party performer for kid’s birthdays at some point in the film. It really isn’t clear if this is something that will be included in the movie or if Phillips and Phoenix are trolling fans from just buying into all of the set photos which continue to be leaked from the production.
Phillips shared the following shot on Instagram:
I’m not thrilled with that idea that Joker may have at one point worked as a clown out of enjoyment or to pay his bills. While there would be a certain amount of irony with a performer who wanted to make kids happy ending up as Batman’s greatest enemy, it just doesn’t feel right.
His expression here is a little closer to the uninterested look of Zazie Beetz in her first character shot to be released.
