Right after we had the chance to experience a new ‘Ready Player One‘ trailer, it sounds like a sequel is already in the works. Author Ernest Cline is hard at work at an untitled sequel which we can all imagine will be titled ‘Ready Player Two’. The first book was both fun and stagnant due to the rollercoaster ride of 80s nostalgia that you enjoy and suffer through while reading it which makes you wonder how the sequel will play out.

With the Steven Spielberg movie looking quite amazing and likely due to being a box office blockbuster, it should be no surprise that another story is going to happen. What it will be about, though, is a mystery as Cline stated in a recent Q&A to promote the film:

“It’s true. I can’t talk about it too much, but there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life.”

He went on to say that he did bounce some of the ideas off of Spielberg which could mean that a possible cinematic collaboration is being kept in mind while writing it. This likely wouldn’t surprise anyone at all assuming it does become a box office hit.

The original novel did end on a positive note and could easily have been left off to be a standalone novel. It will be interesting to see how Cline not only brings back his characters for another go but what they’ll be up against this time.

Are you looking forward to ‘Ready Player Two’? What do you think the plot will revolve around in the next chapter? Will there still be a focus on the 80’s here or the 90’s instead? Share your thoughts below!
