WARNING: Spoilers for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming ahead!

One of the most exciting moments at the end of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ came when Tony Stark invited Peter Parker to officially join the Avengers, a moment which included Tony unveiling a brand new Spider-Man suit for Peter, which fans quickly recognized was the MCU’s version of the famed “Iron-Spider” armor first introduced in the ‘Civil War’ comics arc. Though Peter did not take the job or the armor in ‘Homecoming,’ recent footage leaked from D23 and San Diego Comic Con confirmed that he will be donning the new suit in his appearance in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ which makes the armor’s reveal at the end of ‘Homecoming’ all the more exciting.

During an interview with with Art of VFX, Dominik Zimmerle, the visual FX supervisor for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ discussed his work on the all aspects of the film, including the teaser at the end of the Iron-Spider suit, which he stated came from the concept art for Joe and Anthony Russo’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War:’

“The new Spider-Man suit was actually designed for one of the next installments of the MCU and models and textures were done by Framestore. We took over the asset and did the lookdev based on provided Concept Art. The Vault itself was created from scratch by us. Our Concept Art department started from the closed outside look of it to define the graphical patterns and structure. Based on that we prepared simplified geometry and approached the interior look from an animation point of view, so how well we could create some more sophisticated opening animation with the available structure. The idea was to have a clean, high tech, presentation Vault for the new suit. It should appear distinctively “Stark” originated. Based on the feedback from the Studio we refined the interior structure and modeled, textured and look deved the Vault.”

Are you excited to see what the new suit can do when Spidey puts it on to help fight Thanos during the ‘Infinity War?’ Do you have any theories on how he gets his hands on it, or what it might allow Peter to do?
