george-r-r-martin-scared-to-turn-the-pageWinter is here my friends! Not just in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ either but George R.R. Martin has promised at least one if not two novels set in Westeros to be released in 2018! After giving us a long wait since the last installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire” it looks as if ‘The Winds of Winter‘, and potentially the first volume of “Fire and Blood” might be making it to print! He snuck the news into his LiveJournal where he was talking about the upcoming release of ‘The Book of Swords‘ anthology.

Here is what Martin had to say about it:

“I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that’s all I care to say. Whether Winds or the first volume of Fire and Blood will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018… and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream…”

For those wondering what ‘Fire and Blood’ are all about, it is his “fake histories on the Targaryen kings” that is “a volume we called (in jest) the GRRMarillion or (more seriously) Fire and Blood.” The plan is to release two volumes of it and while it sadly won’t be as complete of a tale that we’re looking for in the next installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire” it will further flesh out the reign of the Targaryens which many have been hoping to find out more about.

As to why there has been a delay of the next novel, Martin says that:

“I’ve seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by ‘journalists’ who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don’t know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I’ve been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both ‘reports’ are equally false and equally moronic.”

Conspiracy theorists are likely to be sad about these two rumors being crushed but hopefully, that means we’ll be hearing an official release date for next year this Fall, or more timely, this winter.

Are you happy to hear that we’ll be getting something new from the realms of Westeros in 2018? Would you want both books to drop at the same time or one in 2018 and one in 2019? Share your thoughts below!
