One point in Wolverine’s history which wasn’t addressed in ‘Logan‘ was his ongoing rivalry with Sabretooth and actor Liev Schreiber reveals why he didn’t make it into the movie. Last month we had heard from director James Mangold that there was originally a plan for Schreiber to revise his role but that it was cut at the last moment. However, according to Schreiber, it was a scheduling issue that prevented him from making the cameo.

When sitting down for an interview about his film ‘Chuck,’ the role was mention, and Schreiber stated:

“I think it’s a terrific movie. I’m just very proud of Hugh and the way that he handled himself with that franchise and that character. It was a great experience to be involved with one of them and to get to work with them. I had mixed emotions when I heard that he was going to retire.”

To be fair, his inclusion would have fit better for fans of the comics where Victor Creed and Logan had a much longer and more extensive history together. Their time shared on screen wasn’t that in depth, and while some history was explored, it wouldn’t have had as much of an impact for those who are unfamiliar with the source material.

The initial inclusion would have had Wolverine seeking out his arch enemy after the incident at the casino hotel for help in getting out of town. It would have been made clear that while the two weren’t friends that they had buried the hatchet in some form.

While it would have been great for the fans, the only real history that they gave the two was in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ which not only are we pretending was never released but thanks to ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ was actually retconned out of existence.

Still, I would have loved to see the two having a serious conversation in the upcoming black and white release of the film.

Are you sad that Liev Schreiber wasn’t able to come back for ‘Logan’? Would interaction between Wolverine and Sabretooth really have mattered with how Fox’s mutant cinematic universe has been crafted? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
