Genre fans are going to be thrilled to find that Edward James Olmos (‘Battlestar Galactica’,’Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’) will be reprising his role as Gaff in ‘Blade Runner 2049!’ Anyone who remembers the original knows that Gaff was the rival of Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard and it will be fun to see these two interacting once more. It sounds like his role is set to be a small one but important enough that he couldn’t talk about it.
I’m curious as to if he’ll be there more for Ford’s character or the one that Ryan Gosling is set to introduce in director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film.
He wasn’t in the original film for that long, but his scenes were necessary for adding mystery to the world and Deckard’s character, and it feels like we’ll be seeing the same here as Olmos stated:
“Well, it’s not about Gaff, but it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back then. My role is like it was in the original [1982 film] — that time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a poignant little scene.”
I suspect that we’ll see Gosling either trying to use Gaff to track down Deckard or that he is attempting to get in touch with all of the former Blade Runners. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get an explanation of Gaff’s constant use of Origami.
Are you happy to hear that Olmos will be back to reprise his role in ‘Blade Runner 2049’? What reason do you feel will cause him to return? Share your thoughts below!
