We’ve recently learned from actor Boyd Holbrook (‘Gone Girl’,’Narcos’) that ‘The Predator‘ will not be a sequel to any of the previous films though that doesn’t mean it will be a reboot either. It is hard to tell from his comments, but it does look like it could take place in the same universe but just not be related to any of the stories which we’ve seen so far. While the actor did share some news about the tone of the movie he did also give the unfortunate news that we likely won’t be getting the Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo which has been a rumor for quite some time. He ended up calling it “a gimmick” even though such a scene could easily make sense if he were brought in as a consultant.

Here is what Holbrook had to say about it in a recent interview with We Got This Covered:

“I’m currently working on Predator. It’s not a sequel; Shane Black has made something totally new, somehow keeping within the realm of Predator [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we’re talking about today, and rooted in something real. It’s real fresh. I don’t think you’re going to see [Arnold] Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick. It’s horror, science-fiction and a western.”

Filming begins next week, and while we’ve gotten a few hints at the plot, much of it is still shrouded in mystery. The idea of a science-fiction and horror mashup is always a win in my book but throwing in the setting of a western as well has me intrigued. The rumored setting was the suburbs which were later said not to be the case, so I’m curious how this western theme will play out.

Do you feel that ‘The Predator’ will be a complete reboot or still take part in established canon but have a unique story? Should Schwarzenegger reprise his role briefly as a consultant on predators or still part of the military at some point in the film or have a minor cameo as a different character?
