For those that somehow still need convincing to go see ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ (check out our website’s full review here, yes we enjoyed it a lot), Star Wars.com has released a cool new promo on Twitter highlighting the direct links between ‘Rogue One’ and the events of the original (and I mean ORIGINAL) ‘Star Wars’ movie, ‘A New Hope.’

The promo, in full Christopher Nolan ‘Memento’ style, flows backward from the moment that Luke Skywalker blows up the Death Star in the original film, giving you clips and quotes from the films (from Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Mon Mothma, Jynn Erso, etc) that tie everything back to the story of Jynn Erso and her rebel compatriots and all that they had to accomplish in order for Luke to have a chance to take that famous shot that began the downfall of the Empire, basically, reinforcing the fact that without Jynn’s gang getting the plans to the Death Star in ‘Rogue One,’ Luke and the rest of the Rebels would not have survived past the first movie.

Having already seen ‘Rogue One’ myself (again, even if you do not like this promo, go see this movie, it’s amazing I promise), I can assure you the promo does not give away much from the movie, and does not even have that much footage from ‘Rogue One.’ It is very cool in how it sets up the links between the two movies, and really reinforces the ties between what Jynn Erso’s story and the future of the rebellion, not to mention how it highlights how similar in visual styles the two films are, meaning Gareth Edwards did an excellent job making ‘Rogue One’ look and feel like it took place in the correct era of the ‘Star Wars’ mythos.
