Fans had a collective nerdgasm when it was revealed that ‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams would be making a guest appearance on this season of ‘Doctor Who.’  It isn’t everyday that such a high profile star of one fan-favorite series pops up on another in a completely unrelated role, but that’s exactly what viewers can expect on Saturday, when Season 9 Episode 5, “The Girl Who Died” airs.  Williams plays Viking girl Ashildr, so her role isn’t that huge a leap from the sword-slinging Arya Stark from ‘GoT’.

Here’s what we reported last month, before the season began:

Written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat
Directed by Ed Bazalgette

“There’s going to be a war tomorrow. And here’s some news, this just in – we are going to win the hell out it!”

In a backwater of history, in a little Viking village where all the warriors have just been slaughtered, a young girl called Ashildre is about to make a desperate mistake. The Mire are the deadliest mercenaries in the galaxy, famed for being unstoppable and without mercy – and Ashildr has just declared war on them. The Doctor and Clara have twelve hours, to turn a handful of farmers and blacksmiths into a fighting force ready to face down Odin himself. And there’s more – because this is the day when the Doctor remembers where he’s seen his own face before.

Below, you can watch a video in which Williams discusses the reaction from fans, regarding “crossing over fandoms.”  She states “Everyone lost their minds a little bit… When you crossover to another geeky fandom world, everyone’s like ‘this is insane!’”:

And you can also watch Williams in action alongside Clara (Jenna Coleman) against an angry army of vikings:

This episode is part one of two, with next week’s “The Woman Who Lived” wrapping things up.  Besides Williams’ guest role, the other factor that has fans buzzing are the titles of these two episodes.  Who is “The Girl That Died?”  Or “The Woman Who Lived?”  Since Jenna Coleman announced she is exiting the series, some fear that her character, Clara Oswald may meet her fate in the first part of this story.

Guess we’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out!  But you don’t have to wait until then to see Clara and The Doctor in some outer space action from the newest episode.  Check out the clip below:

Are you excited to see Maisie Williams enter the world of ‘Doctor Who’?  Are you worried that bad things may be coming for Clara?
