Big week for ‘Star Wars’ news, as earlier we had the report that Gareth Edwards would be bringing back Grand Moff Tarkin in ‘Rogue One’ using CGI to recreate Peter Cushing in his famous role. While exciting, it also reminds us that any of the anthology movies that take place during the timeline of the original films has a responsibility to keep the world and actors looking about the same as they did in the 1970s when ‘Star Wars’ was originally released. Hence why we have the new Stormtrooper helmets, secretly shot and posted on Instagram by Donnie Yen (one of the stars of ‘Rogue One‘), which folks over at JediNews managed to record before he was forced to pull the image from his Instagram account.

Apparently these 3 helmets will be featured in the film which is awesome because aside from the original helmet in the middle, the ones on the sides are brand new designs that still look like they fit in with the retro sci-fi look from the 70s, with the black helmet even resembling a helmet design by Ralph McQuarrie (see right) that he did for the original ‘Battlestar Galactica.’ The idea that I have heard is that these helmets will be worn by Stormtroopers in parts of the galaxy we have never seen before, having been designed to fit those worlds, much as how the Snowtrooper helmets were designed for Stormtroopers on cold planets such as Hoth.

With this much attention to detail, and ability to recreate the look and tone of the originals, I have much more faith in Gareth Edwards’ ‘Star Wars’ anthology film’s ability to be successful and fit in with the movies already in canon, and I cannot wait to see what else Edwards and his crew have in store for us.
