Some actors and actresses strive for roles that are essentially Oscar-bait, but others prefer to land more commercial roles in potential franchises and Margot Robbie has landed in the second category, taking on the part of Harley Quinn in Warner Brothers’ upcoming ‘Suicide Squad‘ based on the DC Comic series. And while only one ‘Suicide Squad’ movie has been announced, Robbie has revealed that she is in fact signed on for multiple films.
“Yeah, that’s daunting”, she revealed, adding “You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away… But with her, it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did ‘Suicide Squad One,’ ‘Two’ and ‘Three, I would be over the moon about it.”
Also slated to appear in the movie is Jared Leto as Harley’s main squeeze The Joker, or “Mistah J” as Harley tends to call him. Also in the pipeline from Warner Brothers are two movies focusing on the Justice League and a solo Batman relaunch, which could also feature The Joker and Harley.
‘Suicide Squad’ also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg.
Also rumored to be appearing is Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, following his appearance in that role in ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and Viola Davis as the head of Task Force X, Amanda Waller. Davis is rumored to have also signed a multiple picture deal.
The comic book features a secret government program that shortens super criminals’ prison sentences in exchange for the villains taking on potentially deadly covert missions.
Robbie will next star opposite Will Smith in ‘Focus’ before appearing in ‘Z For Zachariah’ with Chiwetel Ejiofor and in next year’s ‘Tarzan’ starring Alexander Skarsgard.
Are you excited to spend the next ten years getting to know Robbie’s Harley Quinn?
