One of the best films of 2014 was definitely Gareth Evans’ Indonesian martial arts thriller ‘The Raid 2.’ Not only has it been praised for its spectacular camerawork and editing, but the fight choreography and the hyper-violence show that there’s incredible beauty in brutality sometimes. And while credit for that also deserves to go to the director, fight coordinators, and the insanely versatile cam ops, the ones who translate the action from the page to the screen are the shining stars, which happens to be a fitting choice of words considering the next project for three of the film’s phenomenal stars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Raid 2’ stars Iko Uwais (Rama), Yayan Ruhian (Prakoso), and Cecep Arif Rahman (The Assassin) are all part of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and they’re bringing their badass fight work with them. The article doesn’t go into detail about what characters they’ll be playing in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film, but it has been stated multiple times that the filmmaker would be using more practical effects rather than solely relying on CGI like the prequel trilogy, so this casting news certainly lines up with that approach. My guess is that they could be portraying bounty hunters or some other sort of warrior found in the shady parts of a galaxy far, far away that have some epic fight scenes with our heroes. Of course, it’s still possible that they could just be the body doubles for members of the previously announced cast like Adam Driver or Oscar Isaac, but hopefully that’s not the case because these guys are to martial arts acting today as Andy Serkis is to motion capture and all three (but especially Uwais) have the potential to steal the show.

What do you think about these three extremely talented actors from ‘The Raid 2’ joining ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’? Are you excited to see what sort intense fight scenes (like the one between Rama and the Assassin in the header) will be showcased in the film now that these three are a part of it? And do you have any theories about who they will be playing? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
