Well it’s official! Sony’s ‘Ghostbusters 3‘ is moving forward and has officially announced a writer attached to the project. While a multitude of scripts have been proposed over the years, it seems that the pitch with an all-female cast (one that has Bill Murray’s blessing) is the one that will be pushed forward. And the person to scribe this idea for the big screen is none other than Katie Dippold (‘The Heat’,’Parks and Recreation’)!

Dippold has a lot of experience working with humor though not much from the darker tone that was what helped me so enjoy the first film. Let’s hope that this is where she can have a shining moment by blending the creepy factor and suspense from the original ‘Ghostbusters’ film and add the same humor that was sprinkled throughout it.

I know that I would love to see this formula work on the big screen once again.

So when was this announced? Well director Paul Feig (‘The Office’, ‘Nurse Jackie’) who got the helmer job a couple months ago made the announcement on Twitter!

It looks as if Feig and Dippold will be writing the script together. No word yet if Dan Aykroyd will be on board to pass the reigns to a new generation considering ‘Ghostbusters 3’ would “no longer be connected to the earlier movies but now launch a new series.” I’m sure we’d all like to see some of the original cast included, even if only as a quick cameo. It’s hard to tell how much tribute will be paid to the past films that made this happen if any.
