While still without an official title, it looks like NBC is very committed to bringing out a new horror and science fiction themed episodic series that will be based on true stories. At this time Endemol Studios is working with the infamous Jason Blum (‘Paranormal Activity‘,’Insidious’) and Tony Krantz (‘Dracula’,’Mulholland Drive ‘) to create the show. I’m sure the thought of a new ongoing series where they don’t have to pay outrageous contracts for an ongoing cast would sound appealing to any studio these days.

So how badly does NBC want it? Well, they are floating a script-to-series commitment that will be based on the approval of the first script. Once approved, the plan is to order a 10-episode season right off the bat. The series is being put together by the writing collective known as Radio Silence which is made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Justin Martinez, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella. The main thing that the four are known for so far is the segment of ‘V/H/S‘ that was titled “10/31/98.” This was the last of the shorts that involved a haunted house which had an exorcism going on. It was one which started off kind of weak though the house itself was so well done that I ended up enjoying it. I’m not sure if it made for good story telling though or if my positive memories of it were more from the special effects department.

Could this be the return of a series similar to that of ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ and ‘The Twilight Zone’? I’ve become such a fan of the ongoing series where a full season tells a story that, while the concept is solid, I’m not sure if this will even be on my radar when it is eventually released. As Showtimes’ recent stab at the ‘Masters of Horror’ series has shown, it is a format that doesn’t seem to be the craze these days for the horror genre. Still, if done right that could change easily enough.

Are you looking forward to seeing what this series will have when it comes together? Share your thoughts below!
