With ‘True Blood’ currently airing its final season, its talented cast will be seeking new employment, but one person in particular doesn’t have anything to worry about. Deborah Ann Woll who plays sultry vampire Jessica has already been snapped up for a role in the Netflix series ‘Daredevil‘ based on the Marvel Comics characters. Woll will play Karen Page, a troubled character who originated as an innocent secretary infatuated with her boss, the blind attorney Matt Murdoch who was secretly the title character. Eventually, they dated and she learned his secret identity, but she later became a drug addict and porn star and sold Murdoch secret identity– information which the Kingpin used to pretty much destroy Murdoch’s life.
The role was played by Ellen Pompeo in the 2003 Ben Affleck movie. In that, Karen Page was a minor character with Jennifer Garner’s Elektra serving as the lead romantic interest. Coincidentally, in the comics, both women were killed by Bullseye.
Woll joins a cast that already includes Charlie Cox as Murdoch/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Rosario Dawson in an unnamed role as a “dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city”.
‘Daredevil’ is the first of four Marvel-based series (plus one additional miniseries ‘The Defenders’) that will be available strictly through Netflix and will tie-into both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the ABC series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Also on tap are Netflix series for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones. ‘Daredevil’ isn’t slated to air until next spring.
Regarding Woll as Karen Page, the question is whether she will retain her red hair or bleach her hair blonde, since in the comics, Matt is one of the most famous ginger super heroes. Will we see a ginger/ginger romance?
