Nope. This isn’t synthahol folks. It’s actually beer, and it’s ‘Star Trek’ beer at that.

I’m not sure if there was some underground movement begging CBS to bring us alcohol that is associated with ‘Star Trek’, or if this is something that just makes sense to them. Needless to say, it’s likely that more than a few Trekkies are going to buy the beer for the sheer novelty of it.

And hey, maybe it will taste good too. After all, all TV franchise beers taste great (is there even a precedent for that?).

In any case, Warnog will soon be gracing our shelves. As for what it will taste like, the official press release states:

This singular beer incorporates rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique.  Warnog’s aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.  The flavor draws heavily from the blending of the rye malt and traditional clove character, creating a very rich and unique flavor.  The inclusion of wheat and caramel malts help to round out the mouthfeel of this beer, making this Dunkelweizen hearty enough to be called a Klingon Warnog.

It will be brewed in partnership between CBS Consumer Products and the Federation of Beer (makers of Vulcan Ale).

Warnog is being previewed March 25, 2014 at Nightclub & Bar Show in Las Vegas, and will be released to the general public later this year.
