‘Soylent Green’ might just become a very real thing. Well, except for the humans-as-ingredients part. Rob Rhinehart, an engineer by trade, has created a product called Soylent, aiming to use it as a replacement for food.

If you’re thinking this is eerily similar to a particular science fiction classic, you’re absolutely right. Though not colorful cracker-like blocks, this soylent is a powdered drink filled with the nutrients a body needs to sustain itself.

According to their campaign website:

“Soylent will be personalized for different body types and customizable based on individual goals. It allows one to enjoy the health benefits of a well balanced diet with less effort and cost.”

There does seem to be many benefits of this crazy future-food. From weight loss to saving money on groceries, Soylent could also ideally reduce environment impact by “eliminating much of the waste and harm coming from agriculture, livestock, and food-related trash.”

So, what does soylent taste like? According to the video below, it tastes a lot like a milkshake. Hm… I could drink only milkshakes for the rest of my life…

The video also includes footage of Rhinehart making a soylent drink, which I guess helps you rest assured that no people are used as an ingredient in this type of soylent.

What do you think? Could this soylent be the food of the future?
