When someone mentions Scarlett Johansson today, they might think about her incredible performance in ‘Her’ or here upcoming part in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. However, the actress has another sci-fi film in the pipeline that is finally getting released after a few years in limbo.

In ‘Under The Skin’, Jonathan Glazer directs Johansson in a dark sci-fi drama that finds the face behind the Black Widow taking a page from the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent’s namesake as the actress plays an alien who seduces men and destroys afterwards. After receiving polarizing reviews at the Venice and Telluride film festivals, the movie based on Michael Faber’s twisted 2000 novel has gotten an April release date in the United States. And now, to promote the commercial debut, a new trailer has hit the web to show off the film’s extremely unusual and unique tone. You can check out it out below:

While the trailer does succeed in freaking you out a little bit, it doesn’t really tell you much about what to expect. Luckily, there’s a synopsis available as well:

In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission: talk about lost in translation! Jonathan Glazer, known for his brilliant music videos and SEXY BEAST, and cowriter Walter Campbell adapt Michael Faber’s acclaimed novel to create a surprisingly layered tale. UNDER THE SKIN begins like an effectively creepy sci-fi horror film, but soon deepens into a lyrical evocation of solitude and estrangement and a mournful lament for ephemeral earthly beauty. The photography by Daniel Landin is richly atmospheric, and Mica Levi’s musical themes provide an ominous depth.

What do you think about Glazer’s first film in almost a decade? Are you curious to check this one out when it hits theaters? Let us know in the comments.

‘Under The Skin’ starring Scarlett Johansson opens on April 4, 2014.
