Since ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, Joss Whedon has been Marvel Studios’ main man. He’s been overseeing all the projects coming out of the woodwork and swooping in to consult as necessary. Most recently, while he’s very busy with his own film, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, he was brought in to do some work on ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

In a conversation with SFX Magazine, director Alan Taylor revealed that he threw up the Joss signal to bring the overlord of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to do some work on the God of Thunder’s next feature film. Taylor describes the experience as almost like a government operation:

“Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times. We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said, ‘And this scene and this scene?’ And he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems. Then finally we let go of him, he took off again, and we shot the scenes; and they were just much better and much lighter on their feet. Much more fun, much more surprising than what we had been trying to do. I can relate to guys who come out of the TV world, since that’s where I come from. And being able to land and work and solve a problem quickly… I really was grateful.”

When the movie comes out later this fall, it’ll be interesting to see if the scenes that Whedon worked on are obvious. Previously, we noted that some new scenes were being added to the film as recently as a month ago and a good amount of these included more Loki. After showing what he could do with the mischievous trickster in ‘The Avengers’, it would make sense to bring in the big guns to insert an additional dose of the fan favorite villain.

What do you think about Joss Whedon’s work on ‘Thor: The Dark World’? Isn’t it interesting about how open Alan Taylor is being about his Marvel movie experience? And are you hoping that Whedon had a chance to write some stuff for Loki again? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, and Anthony Hopkins is scheduled to hit theaters on November 8, 2013.
