It has been three years since we’ve last seen the demigod Percy Jackson in theaters, but fans of this franchise will be happy to know that he’s riding a wave back into theaters next month with ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’. Directed by ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ helmer Thor Freudenthal, we follow the son of Poseidon as he and his friends are in search of the Golden Fleece, a mythical item necessary to save Camp Half-Blood.

Earlier this summer, we saw a few trailers to show off what’s in store for Grover, Annabeth, and their crew. Now, we get the first clip from the film, which is an extended scene that can be seen in the various trailers. Thanks to MSN Movies, you can see the young heroes utilize a rather extreme mode of transportation operated by three lovely ladies played by Yvette Nicole Brown, Missi Pyle, and Mary Birdsong who all share one distinct physical feature:

To learn more about the upcoming movie, here’s a brief synopsis:

Percy Jackson has had an unnervingly quiet school year. But then he discovers that the magical borders protecting Half Blood Hill are failing. Unless something is done, the camp will be attacked by demons and monsters. The only way to restore power to the camp’s borders and to save their home is to find the mythical Golden Fleece. And the only who can undertake this dangerous quest are Percy and his friends. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.

‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ starring Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel, Nathan Fillion, Stanley Tucci, and Sean Bean strikes theaters on August 7, 2013.
