The second official trailer for ‘After Earth’ has hit online and while the first trailer focused on Jaden Smith’s character Katai, this one shows more of the dynamic relationship between Katai and his father Cypher.

In a stretch of a role is Will Smith who plays the character of Cypher, father of Katai played by his son, Jadan Smith. This trailer does go into some background of the relationship the two had before their spacecraft crashed onto Earth, but unlike the first trailer where it seemed that Smith Sr. would only appear in the beginning of the film, this one indicates he has a bigger role than originally thought. Here, although injured, Cypher is able to help as he sends out his son to the wilderness to retrieve the distress beacon that will save them both from death.

The jury is still out on this film. While the visual of a new and dangerous Earth is impressive, there is a sense of “been there, done that” when it comes to the story. Considering M.Night Shyamalan wrote and directed the film, his name is nowhere to be found on the movie poster or trailer. Could that be a foreshadowing on what he thinks of the film or is it because his last couple films flopped and doesn’t want people to stray away from the film if his involvement is known.

Check out the trailer below and let us know if you think ‘After Earth’ is worth seeing:

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Directed by M.Night Shyamalan, ‘After Earth’ stars Will Smith, Jadan Smith, Zoë Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman and will open in theaters on June 7th.
