A&E has released a new teaser and key art for their new ‘Psycho’ inspired series ‘Bates Motel.’

The logline of this prequel series states that the heart of the show will focus on the dark and twisted backstory of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his “deeply intricate” relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga). Knowing what the series is about, watching the teaser can be a little off putting as it makes you wonder how “intricate” is this relationship between the two as they sit on a bed with Norma telling her son that she loves him… in a creepy way. As the tagline says, “A Boy’s Best Friend Is His Mother”.

While the Hitchcock film takes place in the 60’s, ‘Bates Motel’ will have a more contemporary setting. The series will not only reveal how Norman’s psyche begins to unravel through his teen years but will also involve the secrets of those who live in the not so serene town of White Pine Bay they live in.

Synopsis:

In “Bates Motel,” following the tragic death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of the idyllic coastal town of White Pine Bay, seeking a fresh start. But Mrs. Bates and her son are done being pushed around and will do whatever it takes to survive – and will do whatever it takes to protect their own secrets.
