The list for the lead in James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is quite long and has been in the spotlight for some time now, but let’s not forget that this movie is about a TEAM of intergalactic peacekeepers and not just Peter Quill/Star-Lord. Finally, news has emerged about casting for another character on the little-known semi-obscure team that’s making their way to the big screen as part of Marvel’s Phase Two.
According to Comic Book Movie, the crop of actors being looked at for the role of Drax the Destroyer includes Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick Wade. According to his bio, Drax is the strong, silent type. Originally known as Arthur Douglas, Drax came to be when Kronos transferred the soul of the human into the body of an alien warrior with the power to take down Thanos after the villain slaughtered the Douglas family.
The choices revealed by the unnamed source are of varying levels of experience when it comes to acting, but all three possess the muscular physique needed for the character. Mustafa is best known for his work as the Old Spice guy from 2010, but he’s also had some television and movie experience in things like ‘Chuck’ and ‘Horrible Bosses’. Bautista is a former WWE Champion that transitioned into acting, as many seem to do these days. He’s been involved in recent films such as ‘House of the Rising Sun’, ‘The Man With the Iron Fists’, and the upcoming Riddick movie. As for Wade, he’s primarily known for his role on HBO’s ‘Generation Kill’, but he’s also been in the film ‘The Guardian’.
Mustafa, Bautista, and WadeI may be biased due to my long-time love of all things WWE, but I feel as though Batista… I mean, Bautista should get the role. As for Mustafa, I think Luke Cage might be a better fit for him.
