Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert join the cast of ‘Beautiful Creatures’

Alcon Entertainment has announced that Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert are in final negotiations to play the leads in the new supernatural film ‘Beautiful Creatures.’

‘Beautiful Creatures’ is the first of a five book series from Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, and centers on two teenagers Ethan (O’Connell) and Lena (Englert). When Lena and her family move into his small South Carolina town, Ethan is drawn to her and “becomes bewitched.”  Together they confront the curse that has haunted Lena’s family for generations as she comes to grips with her powers.

O’Connell is best known for his work in the British TV shows ‘Skins’ and ‘The Runaway’ and  on movies such as ‘United’ and ‘This is England.’ Englert, a relative newcomer, has just finished filming ‘Singularity’ with Josh Hartnett and Neve Campbell.  Both will be joining Viola Davis (‘The Help’) who was cast just last week as Amma, a librarian and seer who takes care of Ethan and his father after his mother dies.

Richard LaGravenese (‘Water for Elephants’) adapted the book for the big screen and will also direct. Erwin Stoff (‘I Am Legend’), Broderick Johnson, Molly Smith (‘Something Borrowed’, ‘The Blind Side’) and Andrew Kosove (‘The Book of Eli’, ‘Blade Runner’ reboot) will all be producing. Filming will begin in April in and around New Orleans.
