A few days ago, we reported that a copy of ‘Action Comics’ #1, possibly belonging to actor Nicolas Cage, was up for auction at ComicConnect.com. The comic, featuring the first appearance of Superman, has a 9.0 CGC rating making it the highest graded copy of this particular issue in existence.

Less than an hour ago, the comic book took the title of “most expensive comic book ever sold” with a final bid of $2,161,000. The last comic to hold this title was also an issue of ‘Action Comics’ #1 which sold for $1,500,000 in March of 2010, but was graded an 8.5 CGC, so this new sale destroyed the previous record.

There is no word yet on who submitted the winning bid.
