The Disney trilogy of “Star Wars” movies are following the formula of throwing us into the middle of an existing world, and some of the new characters we’ve met have had few details known about their backstories. The Marvel Comics and a few novels, however, have been helping us to know some of the characters, such as Poe, in more detail. But for those who only experience the films, there still isn’t much to go on. Now, we’ve learned that ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ is going to be changing all that.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, director J.J. Abrams revealed:

“We went into this movie very much in the mindset that this has to be conclusive. It has to. You have to get some answers. You have to learn some things.”

What kind of things might you be wondering? When it comes to Finn in particular, Abrams teased, “It is part of the story of this one. And it was alluded to in Episode VII, but there’s a bit more light shed on that in this one.”

As to how many details on Finn and other major characters will we get?

“I would say that each of the characters get more light shed on their histories. I’m not saying we get full, exhaustive downloads on all of their childhoods and every major step that got them to where they are. But there are a lot of questions about Finn’s past, about Poe’s past, obviously Rey and Kylo, and then some of the new characters we meet.”

While there is no mention of Snoke’s role here, it does sound like we’ll be learning more of the living significant new players in the “Star Wars” franchise.
