‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ has once again been cancelled. This time by Netflix and right before the show’s anniversary. The series debuted on Thanksgiving in 1988 and would later grow into a yearly marathon. This year, you can still binge on this fan-favorite event but with the sad news that new episodes will not be on the horizon on Netflix.

That isn’t to say all hope is lost for the show.

According to series creator Joel Hodgson:

“As some of you might have guessed, we won’t be making new seasons of the show for Netflix. However, I want you to know that we’ve had a wonderful time working with the Netflix team and will always be grateful to them. After all, they gave us the opportunity to spend the past few years aboard the Satellite of Love and made it possible for new generations to discover the joys of riffing cheesy movies with your friends.”

While Netflix will still host the first 12-seasons, they won’t be hosting a 13th. Now, this isn’t to say that a 13th won’t be happening at some point as Hodgson continued:

“I couldn’t be more grateful or proud to our incredible cast and our wonderful crew for bringing this incarnation of the show to life, and hope that we’ll get the chance to continue collaborating on MST3K as we enter our next chapter.”

The annual Turkey Day Marathon is still slated to happen on both YouTube and on the MST3K Twitch Channel this year. We’ll have to wait and see if the creators will be finding a new production partner or try to crowdfund a return in the near future.
