In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ian Somerhalder expressed interest in being a part of ‘Legacies’, the latest spin-off of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ in which he portrayed the brooding bad boy with a heart of gold Damon Salvatore. While promoting his new series ‘V Wars’, the 40-year-old actor revealed that he could see himself returning to the franchise created by Julie Plec, but not in the way that fans would expect.
Somerhalder told ET:
“I actually would love to talk to Jules. I would love to go and direct one of [the ‘Legacies’ episodes]… I know Paul [Wesley] went to do it and he called me and he’s like, ‘Bro, this is f**king crazy.’ Because it’s all of our old sets, which is a time warp, 10 years ago. He’s just going, ‘Dude!’ He was actually kind of emotional about it, he goes ‘This is crazy!'”
After spending 8 years on ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ the series concluded with Damon and his longtime lover Elena Gilbert played by the talented Nina Dobrev becoming humans and starting a family together in 2017.
“We spent eight years on the show, and now it’s two years later, and we’re still talking about it while we’re working on other things. That’s a decade, 30 to 40. That’s a very substantial piece of your life,” Somerhalder continued. “But I would actually love to go back and direct one. I love what they are doing. The show looks amazing, it’s all of my old team.”
In the first season of ‘Legacies’, Damon and Elena’s daughter, Stephanie, was referenced giving fans hope that there is a the possibility of introducing the character and seeing the return of her parents in the future. Premiering October of last year, ‘Legacies’ has incorporated numerous original ‘Vampire Diaries’ characters into it. Last month series creator Julie Plec spoke with ET where she admitted that she would continue to give nods to the OG cast:
“We are going to try and do that as often as we can without making false promises about who we might see. I would love to be able to deliver on that as much as possible.”
Some of the main cast of the second spin-off of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ also communicated that they welcome the idea of Somerhalder making a cameo on the show, specifically Jenny Boyd and Kaylee Bryant. Boyd and Bryant portray Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes’ twins, respectively.
‘Legacies’ currently airs every Thursday on the CW.
